STEM Smart: Lessons Learned from Successful Schools

STEM Smart: Lessons Learned from Successful Schools,Focus on Engineering Education. A Conference Hosted by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This NSF-hosted meeting will highlight findings in the National Research Council reports, Successful K-12 STEM Education and Monitoring Progress Toward Successful K-12 STEM Education, with a special focus on engineering education, as described in the Next Generation Science Standards. It will include breakout sessions on National Science Foundation funded projects, resources and initiatives that align with the reports’ evidence base on effective instruction, access to high quality STEM for all students, and building supportive infrastructure. Networking opportunities will be available for participants.Following the release of the Conceptual Framework for New Science Education Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards draft, both which call for the inclusion of engineering in K-12 education, there has been an increased interest and need for information about engineering curriculum and professional development, as well as guidance about how school systems can integrate engineering into an already packed schedule. Increasingly, the NSF has funded engineering education research that addresses these issues among others. The STEM Smart meeting was planned in conversation with the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Web address for the event: http://successfulstemeducation.org/events/329. Registration opens on April 11. No registration fee. First-come, first-served. Seating limited. Questions regarding the meeting? Email successfulstemed@edc.org
