Dr. Matthias W. Pleil, Principal Investigator at the Southwest Center for Microsystems Education, and Research Professor at the University of New Mexico, brings ATMAE attendees three 55-minute Mini-Seminars about MicroElectronics & MicroSystems as valuable additions to technology programs.
• Session 1: What are MEMS and Why a 2-Year Tech Program Should Care!
Capitol 2, 8:30 - 9:25 a.m., W6 - Free
This session provides an overview of MicroElectronics & MicroSystems (MEMS), the market, and regional industry clusters – there is a market and need for your tech grads! The Southwest Center for Microsystems Education (SCME) is the Resource for Microsystems Technician Educational Materials and Instructor Training and offers written materials, kits, animations, lectures, and online courses. SCME also offers professional development webinars, 1-2 day workshops, week-long cleanroom workshops, and conferences. Attendees will receive various written materials from SCME: a catalog of SCME Materials, a MEMS Applications Overview, a history of MEMS, and a Microsystems Systems industry mapping, growth, and technician need analysis.
• Session 2: How are MEMS Made? The SCME Pressure Sensor Process Kit and Understanding Microfabrication Processes in the Classroom
Capitol 2, 10 - 10:55 a.m., W7 - Free
This session provides an overview of MEMS Fabrication Overview with a Pressure Sensor Process Interactive presentation. Attendees will receive a MEMS Fabrication Overview learning module, a Pressure Sensor Process learning module, and One Pressure Sensor Process Kit worth $400 will be given away to a session attendee!
• Session 3: How do MEMS Sensors Work - the Pressure Sensor Macro Model Kit
Capitol 2, 11:05 a.m.- 12 p.m., W8 - Free
This session focuses on the Wheatstone Bridge – the primary Sensor Circuit – through a presentation, video, and hands-on activities, providing information on making a working model for use in the classroom. Attendees will receive a Wheatstone Bridge learning module, a Transducers, Sensors and Actuators learning module. Two kits with a $100 value will be given away to session attendees by a random drawing.
