Description: Forsyth Technical Community College (Forsyth Tech) and the National Center for the Biotechnology Workforce (NCBW), will be hosting The Biosciences Industrial Fellowship Project (BIFP) from June 5th to June 29th, 2017. The National Science Foundation (NSF) supports this multi-disciplinary bioscience initiative through the Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Program, DUE Grant #1304010. During this four week professional development initiative, Fellows reside in Winston-Salem, NC where they gain a panoramic view of the bioscience industry and participate in laboratory skills “boot camps” at our 3 collaborating community colleges; Forsyth Technical Community College (Forsyth Tech), Alamance Community College (ACC), and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC). In addition to the hands-on laboratory experience, Fellows will shadow workers in various departments at a dozen different industrial/university hosting facilities, gain invaluable insight from special guest presenters, and develop/present an instructional module related to the project that can be shared and or implemented at their home institutions. Travel expenses are included and a competitive weekly training stipend is offered for Fellows that qualify. Description: The SMART Center has announced it is now accepting applications for its annual summer Maritime and Transportation Institutes to be held this year in Norfolk, Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland. The Institutes are geared for secondary STEM and CTE educators, college faculty, guidance counselors, career coaches, and secondary and college-level administrators as well as maritime and transportation industry employees who would benefit from interacting directly with local educators for workforce development. The week-long Institute is free of charge and includes: • most meals (a few dinners will be on your own) • all overnight lodging (for attendees who live at least 25 miles from the meeting site) • materials to take back for classroom use Participants who complete the Institute, submit related project in a timely manner, and provide follow-up surveying will earn six (6) professional continuing education (CEUs) credits from Tidewater Community College and a $500 stipend.
