Description: Workshop Overview: The interdisciplinary nature of robots make robotics a useful STEM pedagogical tool. There is also significant need for industrial certification programs in robotics. Robots are increasingly used across industry sectors to improve production throughputs while maintaining product quality. The benefits of robotics, however, depend on workers with up-to-date knowledge and skills to maintain and use existing robots, enhance future technologies, and educate users. It is critical that education efforts respond to the demand for robotics specialists by offering courses and professional certification in robotics and automation. This NSF sponsored workshop introduces a new approach for teaching Industrial Robotics in electrical engineering technology programs to match industry needs and provide a replicable model for programs around the US. Who should attend: This workshop is offered to faculty members of two and four year institutions and designed for the instructors who wish to increase their experience in Industrial Robotics and is interested in revamping existing or developing courses in Industrial Robotics. One of the distinguishing factors of the NCL is the integration of learning objectives in all its activities. The main way this is accomplished is by aligning the preparatory lab exercises available in the NCL Gymnasiums the challenges themselves. This allows players to use the NCL Gymnasiums to develop knowledge and skills and then demonstrate these newly acquired skills during Preseason, Regular Season and Postseason Games. It also allows the NCL to measure player’s game performance and produce NCL Scouting Report (individualized reports) on strengths and weakness amongst various learning objectives.

Description: Since the industrial revolution, technology has consistently reshaped the workforce but educational systems often struggle to keep pace. Today, with the increasing speed of automation technologies integration, educational systems can no longer lag behind. A recent McKinsey & Company report highlighted automation enabled by technologies as the most disruptive factor to having a well-trained future workforce. High-skilled careers like those developed through the NSF ATE programs will be impacted the most. Now more than ever, it is imperative that focus is placed on staying ahead of the curve in technician training programs across the nation. RCNET will host a two-day workshop designed to bring together a critical mass of academic, technology, and government experts with a mission of embedding automation enabling technologies, such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and batteries, into STEM college programs to address immediate and future (5 years) workforce needs. Hosted on IRSC’s main campus in Ft. Pierce, FL, workshop participants will review best practices in automation technologies across the eight ATE meta-fields, identify curriculum, technology and training gaps, and develop a roadmap to close the gaps. This workshop will also welcome industry, government, and university leaders in automation technologies. The workshop will result in a white paper detailing the state of automation technologies in the technician training programs and will include: 1.
